I cannot believe United let Danny go, especially to Arsenal. That seems mad to me.
He’s a real threat to defenders and, if Arsenal use him right, he will be very dangerous for them. That will be good news for England, too, because if he is playing regularly that has to benefit the national team.
Danny has everything to be a top player. English football has yet to see what he can really do because he hasn’t been getting a run of games.
At Arsenal he will be the main man and I have no doubt he will flourish. Imagine the pace Arsenal will have when everyone is fit.
The Gunners concluded a hectic summer of transfer dealings by finalising a £16 million deal for Welbeck very late on the deadline day. The Englishman might not be the blockbuster name that some fans may have been dreaming of, but his qualities and attributes should enable him to fit harmoniously into Wenger’s footballing philosophy.
The most destructive facets of his play are his constant pressing on defenses, his work rate and, vitally, his pace. Giroud might be more of a natural goal scorer, but the youngster will bring an energy and dynamism that the Gunners have recently been lacking in the final third.
His goal scoring record might not make the most enticing of reading, but when considering the large number of substitute appearances he made over his United career, as well as the amount of time exiled to the left wing, the numbers make more sense. If given time to play up front, he might just find himself dramatically improving on those stats.
He will be surrounded by players who share his acceleration, as well as those with unrivalled vision and proficient passing. With his signing the Gunners have an attack that has the potential and the capability to shell-shock their opponents.
